It is truly bizarre to be hitting my one year anniversary with Stephen in our new house. I am 22 years old! I feel sooo much older. Stephen and I spent a bunch of today reminiscing over our dating experience and the past chaotic year. We moved 3000 miles, got new jobs, new church, new apartment, new cats, new dog, new house. We decided our big new years resolution:have some normalcy! Some good, old fashion sedentary living. Just for a bit. No more new massive life changes! (And yes that means I'm NOT going to be trying for a baby anytime soon!)
So in celebration of surpassing the marriage lengths of 90% of hollywood couples Stephen and I went to the Riverside Dinner Theater in town. My expectations were hightened a bit because of the rave reviews we had recieved from many of our friends. The musical we went to was Scrooge. It was a basterdization of Charles Dickens! A molestation! It was not so much the screenplay itself, which was redeemed only by the fact it was based on Dicken's noble writing. It was the musical adaptation and insertions of poorly executed songs that ruined it for me. During the visit of the Ghost of Christmas present there is an odd unexplainable dance that included a ballarina dancing around the stage, a group of carolers, and a manger scene. Why that was inserted could only be explained by the fact that it must've been a song they had to fit in.
At the part where Ebenezer wakes up on Christmas day after being visited by the three ghosts he dressed up like Santa Clause and went to the toy store and wrapped the gifts in shiny reflective wrapping paper (which I would hardly expect they even had in great supply that time) and took the gifts to Bob Cratchet's house. And revealed that he was Scrooge to them. Santa is not Ebenezer. He's just not. Oh and Tiny Tim could not sing. Now, all this being said I must admit ignorance in that I've never read A Christmas Carol but I cannot believe that Charles Dickens would be anything but pissed had he seen what I saw today. I must say that I have also been spoiled being brought up in a meca of the arts! I've seen a Beauty and the Beast in New York on Broadway and The Phantom of the Opera in London. Not to mention the plays I saw in LA and San Diego.
Now I leave you to enjoy my anniversary.
God bless us, everyone!

And so it begins
Well here is my first blog. I figure if nothing else, my writing will help sustain any and all writing skills I have until my next college semester. After all, if I am to be an English teacher I should be able to write, right?
Yesterday was mine and Stephen's first Christmas being all married and such. It was a quiet and lovely Christmas. Although it did rain most of the day, I got to try my hand for the first time at cooking a turkey. I didn't screw it up too badly though. I think my biggest faux pas was forgetting the giblet bag. It's not that I didn't look-I did! I manned up and stuck my hand right up that turkey's hooha. All I found was the neck! We did not find the baggy until the turkey had been cooked up all nice and toasty. Maybe it added moisture, who knows. I will admit, however, that my Christmas was way different from any before. At my parents there are always at least 10 people there if not many more. There were only the two of us, but it was so fantastic! We were in our own home with our puppy dog Kaiser and our two kitties. And it was a great practice run for any future turkey dinners where people might actually need to consume the food I cook.
Speaking of practice runs, I am trying to train for a marathon. Yup 26.2 miles of fun! You know your out of shape when you start to jog and you can feel your butt jiggle. It's really not that fun if you can literally feel the fat your trying to lose bounce with you off the pavement. It's not that I've gained that much weight since getting married I just haven't run as much which leads to fat bouncing and other fun experiences. With the recent snow it's put a little bit of a hitch in my training but gosh darnit I'm gonna jump right back and get into it. I only ran 3 miles today but tomorrow I will do 5. Yay.
